Schema markup for jewelry stores, in plain language
Schema markup is a block of machine-readable code that states plainly what your business is, where it is, what it sells and what it charges. Most local jewelry sites have none, which is why adding it correctly is one of the highest return technical jobs available.
Use the specific type, not the generic one
Schema.org has a JewelryStore type that inherits from Store and LocalBusiness. Using it instead of a generic LocalBusiness tells search engines and answer engines exactly what category of business you are, without them having to infer it.
For a pawn shop, a coin dealer or an appraiser, choose the type that genuinely matches and use additionalType or service markup for the rest, rather than claiming a type you are not.
What belongs on every page
The business node: legal name, address, phone, geo coordinates, opening hours, price range, URL and sameAs links to your real profiles.
BreadcrumbList, so the site hierarchy is explicit.
WebSite, with the site name and search action where relevant.
What belongs on specific pages
Service markup on each service page, describing the service, the provider and the area served. This is what allows a repair page to be understood as a repair service rather than as text about repairs.
FAQPage on any page with genuine questions and answers visible to the visitor. The answers must match what is on the page.
Product markup on real inventory, with material, gemstone and size attributes filled in properly.
The rules that keep it working
Never mark up something a visitor cannot see on the page. That is the fastest route to a manual action.
Keep the name, address and phone in schema identical to the Google Business Profile and the visible footer.
Validate after every deploy. A single trailing comma silently kills the whole block, and nothing warns you.
Entity grounding is the next step up
Beyond basic markup, you can connect the topics and places on your site to real knowledge graph entities through sameAs, about and mentions. That resolves ambiguity about which business and which city you are, which is exactly what an AI answer engine needs before it will name you.
